Norman Cross
Trimaran Designer

Norman Cross, the seminal and pioneer multihull designer, was a native of Canada. Before embarking on a career in yacht design, he worked as an engineer for Ford Motor Company. Later he moved to San Diego, California where he spent 16 years as an engineer working for General Dynamic’s Convair Division, Department of Wind-tunnel Model Design. In the 1950’s he began designing multihull sailing craft, the first of which were catamarans. He began full time multihull design and development in 1968 when he started drawing the many trimaran designs for which he is famous for. Countless Cross trimarans have sailed hundreds of thousands of miles around the globe and continue to do so to this day.
